6-2 Blog: Marketing Perspective
Hello everyone! I most definitely do follow a good number of influencers whether that be through Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, or Instagram. I find myself mainly following large majorities of gaming content as that's what my hobby is and I find certain video games entertaining. It's also quite surprising to the extent that which social media influencers can market certain products. They typically garner special advertising deals with various companies and can put them inside videos for their audience to see. This type of marketing is quite interesting because since you trust your favorite influencer you're going to be more prone to listening to what they have to say about a product they're advertising.
Word of mouth is a powerful tool to spread a product's name and get the ball rolling which is why influencers are great at marketing products to a specific audience. Collaborating with influencers definitely strengthens a brand's recognition as well as reputation if the influencer is reputable themselves. Not only that but influencer marketing can improve audience engagement and increase conversions. This form of marketing better resonates with consumers which in turn can enhance the amount of sales generated. Influencer marketing is one of the more authentic forms of marketing which results in higher engagement from the audience.
A bit of a downside of influencer marketing is that an influencer runs their own social media accounts meaning regulation of what they post is thrown out the window. Meaning if you partner with an influencer and they start posting certain pieces of content that doesn't align with your brand it could damage your brand's reputation for partnering with that person. There's also the risk of influencer fraud which occurs when paid influencers use artificially inflated follower numbers to increase their askign rate for engaging their audience on behalf of a brand. (Lorelei, Mar 19) Still in the end influencers have a substantial advantage of being implicitly trusted by their audience. If a company is able to partner with a trustworthy influencer there could be very high rewards.
